My role: FFE procurement and space planning

While working for Staach, I helped design breakout spaces and client facing areas of the Northwestern Mutual Regional HQ relocation. Our client worked with a local firm to handle the larger architectural scope of this new build and reached out to us to handle furniture and finishes. My role was to tap into the functional and emotional needs of the staff and their clients to create a design that could support the people using it in a dynamic way. Because these spaces would be used to have vulnerable conversations about personal and corporate financial health, I wanted to make them as comforting yet professional as possible.
Folks are welcomed by a custom Staach reception desk designed by Ben Gordon - it’s the perfect balance of cool modern and warm Scandinavian.
Because I wanted to create a sense of security and comfort, I played up the good feelings of ample natural light by using a lot of light tone woods and soft gray and beige fabrics. Most of the seating in the client facing areas are low to the ground and have deep seat depths. By using furniture that sits low to the floor, the rooms stay very open and clean, and the larger seat depth allows folks to sit back and relax. These little details create a residential vibe that comforts the people using these spaces.

This plan illustrates the overall footprint of the building and highlights the areas that I designed.
